Basil Joseph, who has been having a phenomenal run with his performances being widely appreciated in his last few releases including Sookshmadarshini, Pravinkoodu Shappu, and Ponman, is gearing up for the release of his next, titled Marana Mass, directed by Sivaparasad. On February 10, Monday, the makers of the upcoming film took to their social media to announce that its first look would be revealed soon with a hilarious montage video that showed Basil sporting a baseball cap all through, and frequently evading attempts by many including fellow actors and interviewers as to what look he was hiding under the cap.
In the video, one could also see Megastar Mammootty asking Basil to remove his cap and reveal the new look, to which the director obliged. However, the viewers never got to see what the actor-director had been keeping under wraps, thus hyping up the curiosity factor behind the film’s upcoming first look reveal.
A Comedy Entertainer Film
The switch-on pooja and launch event of the film was held in August 2024 in Kochi featuring the cast and crew. Speaking to the media during the launch event, Basil Joseph commented cheekily that even though the title of the film was Marana Mass, since it was he who would be acting in it, the audience could expect a complete comedy entertainer, which was his staple fare. The filming was wrapped up in November 2024.
Marana Mass also stars Rajesh Madhavan and Suresh Krishna in prominent roles. Bankrolled by actor Tovino Thomas and Tingston Thomas through Tovino Thomas Productions in association with Thanzeer Salam for World Wide Films, the film’s technical crew includes music director Jay Unnithan, cinematographer Neeraj Revi and editor Chaman Chakko of RDX fame.

Basil’s Return To Direction
Recently, the actor was speaking at a promotional interview for Pravinkoodu Shappu where he was asked regarding his plans for directorials with Mammootty and Mohanlal. Basil said, “Two three projects are in the pipeline, undergoing its thought process and scripting. Work on one is nearly done. Even I am genuinely praying these projects come together soon, but have been getting delayed for reasons beyond my control.” The actor-director also revealed that he had been taking an effort for over a year and a half for these projects to take off soon, and revealed that they would go on floors soon.
